Centre makes airbags mandatory for front passengers in new cars from April 1
The Central government on Tuesday made airbags mandatory in news cars from April 1, 2021 for passengers sitting in the front seats. For the existing cars, the Centre directed owners to fix the dual front airbags on or before June 1, 2021. Apart from reducing the number of accidents on national highways, the Central government has made airbags compulsory for front passengers as the majority are driving their own cars instead of hiring drivers. The draft rule was notified by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Monday.
