New covid variant ‘N440K’ spreading fast in AP, scientists say mutation can evade antibodies
Scientists of the Institute for Genomics and Integrative Biology have found a new Covid-19 mutation in the bodies of people in Andhra Pradesh. They named the variant as ‘N440K’ and can evade the antibodies generated by immune systems. They came to the conclusion about the presence of ‘N440K’ after analysing genomes of 272 covid samples.
Scientists have identified ‘N440K’ in 34 per cent of samples. The new variant was also found in samples collected from Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Telangana. Researchers have conducted genome tests on 6,370 samples collected throughout India.
