Pfizer’s Covid-19 shot a storage challenge, India to wait for Oxford & Bharat Biotech vaccines
The UK has become the first country to authorise Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine against Covid-19. However, its requirement for ultra-cold temperature for storage — minus 70 degrees Celsius — is a big drawback for India. India continues to look at the Oxford-AstraZeneca shot along with some other Indian candidates.
An official of the Indian government said there are not enough supplies of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine as many western countries have ordered it. While the Centre is in talks with all companies, it is more focused on Oxford-AstraZeneca and Bharat Biotech vaccines, as they can be stored at more moderate temperatures.
