Install CCTVs with audio recording at all interrogation rooms, lock ups: Supreme Court
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India ordered to install CCTV cameras with night vision and audio recording in all police stations and investigation agencies in the country. The Supreme Court asked the state governments to instal CCTV cameras in all police stations covering the interrogation rooms, entry and exit points and lock-ups.
The SC mentioned that most of the interrogations will take place in the offices therefore CCTVs must be installed in office rooms also. It asked to retain the audio and video recording for 18 months for evidence if needed and it will help to monitor if any human rights violation take place during the interrogation.
