Former union minister Dilip Ray awarded 3-year jail term in coal scam
Former union minister Dilip Ray sentenced to three-year imprisonment over his role in the alleged irregularities in the allocation of a Jharkhand coal block in 1999. Dilip Ray, who is a senior BJP leader in Odisha, was a coal minister under the Vajpayee-led NDA government.
A Special CBI Court in Delhi also awarded a three-year jail term each for two senior officials of the Ministry of Coal at that time. They are Pradip Kumar Banerjee and Nitya Nand Gautam. In addition to the jail term, the court also imposed a Rs 10 lakh fine on each of them.
