India’s top drug regulator, the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), has approved the proposal of Serum Institute of India (SII) to conduct human trials in the country for Covid-19 vaccine candidate. It has approved after the expert committee accepted a revised proposal submitted by SII.
Reports suggest that ahead of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and Zydus Cadila’s ZyCov-D, the SII can start more significant phase of second and third trials of the candidate in India. Oxford University has developed the vaccine in the name of Covishield. The vaccine trials are going to begin in 17 places in the country. The tests will be launched at 1600 people who have crossed 18 years of age.
