NEW DELHI: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) clarified about the letter written by its Director GeneralDr Balram Bhargava to investigators of the clinical trial is meant to 'cut unnecessary red tape' and to speed of the recruitment of the participants for vaccine trials. ICMR asserted that the Bharath Biotech completed the first phases and therefore they gave permission for clinical trials.
Earlier, ICMR stated that the COVAXIN may be developed before 15th August. ICMR former chief NK Ganguly expressed an opinion that it will take nearly 18 months to develop a vaccine after completing all mandatory regulatory approvals.
He added that in the first phase the vaccine will be tested on different age groups. In phase two, the vaccine will be given to nearly 600 to 700 people and if the results are positive then it will move to the next stage. In the third phase, thousands of people are enrolled to get vaccinated. Click the video for more information.
