Modi's 9-min blackout call: Power sector on alert to ensure grid stability
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has requested the people of India to light candles and mobile torches for nine minutes at 9 pm on Sunday. He said switching off the lights in the houses is to show solidarity in the fight against deadly novel coronavirus. However, Power Engineers Association of various states have expressed concern over grid stability once the usage of power falls less than 40 per cent in nine minutes. They wrote a letter to the Prime Minister’s Office raising the grid stability issue. However, the Power Ministry said that there would be no impact on grid operations due to blackout.
