Senior Journalist Vanaja said the family values keep on changing with a passage of time. She said a man and woman approaching the 50 years of age should not expect that their children will take care of them in their future. The journalist said in earlier days, maybe 20 to 30 years back, there was a system of joint family as most of the family members are in the same occupation. She said, with a passage of time, the joint family is seen fading away as members of the same family opt to choose their different professions and accordingly they settle to their own desired places. The days are gone to make any compulsion on the children, the journalist said. She has stressed the importance of liquid cash, the responsibilities of the parents to their children up to a particular age and leading a life of their own choices.
