The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had sought five days of custody of the former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram alleging that he was not cooperating in the investigation. The special CBI court on Thursday after observing the arguments from both the parties on the INX Media corruption case has sent the former union minister to CBI custody for four days till August 26. The special CBI court has however given permission to the family members and the lawyers to meet Chidambaram for half an hour daily if required.
The senior Congress leader was arrested by the CBI from his residence in New Delhi late on Wednesday in connection with the INX Media case.
