After partitioning between Pakistan with India, the then Maharaja Hari Singh agreed to the accession of Jammu & Kashmir to India on October 26, 1947, with some conditions. Sheik Abdullah, who was the then Prime Minister of Jammu & Kashmir appointed by Hari Singh was responsible for the inclusion of Article 370 in the constitution. As a result, Jammu & Kashmir state had full autonomy except in subjects of defence, external affairs and communication. On Monday, the Modi government scrapped Article 370 with a presidential order.
