Prakash Ambedkar, grandson of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, said that th Constitution of India does not recognise economic background as criteria for giving reservations. Describing the Centre's decision to give 10 per cent reservations to economically backward among general quota as wrong, Prakash said that it will deprive the general category of further 10 per cent. IF the Supreme Court (SC) turns down the proposal, it will unnecessarily raising the hopes of the needy and then dashing them, he observed. This is a ploy by the government to demean Constitutionally set-up institutions, he said.
