Bangladesh cricket captain wins as MP in recent elections

Bangladesh cricket captain Mashrafe Mortaza most recently has won as MP in the elections held on December 30. He is currently a captain of the Bangladesh national team but will serve as MP. He is reportedly the first active Bangladeshi player to serve as an MP. According to reports, Mortaza to retire from cricket after the World Cup in 2019. With the lakhs of supporters, cricketers entering politics is not new in South Asian countries. In India, former cricketer Azharuddin won as MP from Uttar Pradesh.
