When the visuals of two women aged around 40 years entering Lord Ayappa Swamy temple at Sabarimala in Kerala and having darshan, were exposed, the devotees raised a hue and cry. Consequently, the authorities closed the temple. The two women, Bindu and Kanakadurga went into the temple with women police escort. They are said to be from Kozhikode in Kerala. While Bindu is a Communist Party of India (CPI) activist, Kanakadurga is an employee with Civil Supplies Department. This is the first time women under the age of 50 years have visited the temple.
