US, Japanese pair win Nobel Medicine Prize for cancer therapy

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2018 was awarded jointly to James P. Allison and Tasuku Honjo for discoveries leading to new approaches in harnessing the immune system to fight cancer. The announcement was made by Professor Thomas Perlmann, Secretary of the Nobel Committee for Physiology or Medicine, on October 1 2018. Reacting to winning the Nobel Prize, James Allison said that the Nobel Prize will bring attention to the issues and the importance of basic science and will give a hope for cancer patients.
