Wed, Sep 26, 2018, 12:30 PM
The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the constitutional validity of the Centre's flagship scheme Aadhaar, but with conditions. The apex court's five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra said Aadhaar is necessary while applying for a PAN card and when filling income tax returns. The Apex Court said that Aadhar is not mandatory for mobile connections and it is also not mandatory for opening of bank accounts. The top court strongly observed that no person should be denied rights due to the lack of Aadhaar.
