Maruthi Rao is liable to be hanged if guilt is proven

Supreme Court (SC) has laid down several strictures and guidelines regarding honour killings, in March this year. Then Chief Justice, Dipak Misra said that there is no honour in honour killings. Ruling that such acts are a direct violation of basic fundamental Right to life and right to a dignified life, the apex court suggested preventive, remedial and punitive measures in such cases. Any interference in the matter choice of a life partner therefore is illegal, the court said. Even as Central government is contemplating a law against 'honour killings,' the SC issued guidelines.
