The Tamil Nadu Government has recommended the released of all seven assassins of former prime minister, Rajiv Gandhi, who are facing jail sentences from the past 27 years. In a resolution, a meeting of Palaniswamy cabinet passed a resolution to this effect. It urged the Governor, Banwarilal Purohit to direct the authorities to this effect. Earlier, Supreme Court (SC) has urged the TN government to consider the mercy of one of the assassins, Perivalan. Rajiv Gandhi was killed in a blast triggered by suicide bomber Dhanu, in 1991.
