God's Own Country devasted; Worst flood in a century

Aluva is a town, in Kerala, that is just a km. away from the banks of Periyar river. Today it looks like a under-water town. The river waters have submerged the town to the extent that only the rooftops of the houses are visible. While lakhs of people have been rescued, thanks to local fishermen who helped with their boats, several thousands are still strandered in their homes, on roof tops or in the topmost floors, desperately waiting for help. They have not eaten for over 72 hours now. The devastation in the worst ever floods is complete from Kasargod to Thiruvanthapuram.
