Unprecedented rains continue to cause havoc in Kerala, leaving at 27 people dead in the rain-related events. The maximum number of 12 persons who died were from Idukki, where landslides occurred. While three gates of Idukki dam were opened to release the flood waters, several other dams were also full with inflows. Periyar river is in spate. In fact it is the incessant rains in the catchment areas as well as in the area where the reservoir is situated that it is causing so much of devastation. Army, Navy and NRDF teams are working on warfooting to evacuate the people and rescue those who are stuck.
