Red alert in Kerala as Kochi airport shuts down due to flooding

A red alert has been sounded in flood-hit Kerala, as Kochi airport suspended operations for two hours. Its domestic and international terminals were flooded with rain water. Several districts of Kerala are facing floods as heavy rains have been pounding the state from the past few days. Nearly 20 persons are reported killed in rain related events. Idukki district is the worst affected with low lying areas inundated. The gates of Idukki dam have been opened, for the first time after 26 years. Army and NDRF teams have been deployed in rescue operations.
