The Congress candidates are holding the Deputy Chairman post of the Rajya Sabha from 1977 onwards. The Modi government wants to break the jinx by ensuring BJP supported candidate sits in the post of Deputy Chairman. The BJP wants to field Akali Dal MP Naresh Gujral for Deputy Chairman post so that the TDP will be forced to vote for him as Chandrababu Naidu has good relations with him. If Naresh opts out then the BJP likely to select JD(U) MP Harivansh as NDA candidate for the Deputy Chairman post. The saffron party says that it has support of 115 MPs and only 7 to 8 MPs support is needed to cross the magic figure.
