Krishnapatnam Port, lying just 18 km. away from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh (AP), has a 500-year-old history. It is said to be a natural harbour that was used by Andhra king, Sri Krishnadeva Raya. He is said to have used the port for the purpose of exports and imports, and hence later it has acquired its name after him. The port is supposed to be owned upto 92 per cent and maintained to a large extent by a private company. A London-based company owns the remaining equity.
