High Court (HC) has stayed the conduct of gram panchayat elections in Telangana. The government was about to give a notification in this regard. HC wanted to know, based on what criteria they had given 34 per cent reservations to Backward Classes (BCs). The Advocate General explained that it was made on the basis of number of gram panchayats in the state. It was also mentioned that the term of sarpanches and ward members have already expired. HC however said that the A,B,C, categorisation of BC reservations should be completed before issuing notification. It is learnt that HC is hearing a petition by BCs, demanding more reservations.
