Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister, became the centre of controversy over Bharat Ratna award. The news is circulating in social media that Nehru himself had nominated for Bharat Ratna. But, the Congress refuted the allegations and said it was fake news. The party clarified India’s first President Rajendra Prasad had nominated Nehru for the award. Historian Ramachandra Guha said that Nehru, who was serving as a Prime Minister then, shouldn’t have accepted the Bharat Ratna. The BJP targeted the Congress and Nehru over the issue.
