Heavy rains lashed Kerala, as the southwest monsoon arrived today, three days earlier than normal. Several low lying places were inundated and people had to wade through two metres of water on the roads. Traffic came to a standstill. Rains lashed Tamil Nadu and put normal life out of gear. It is raining heavily at Mangaluru in Karnataka, with the roads flooded, disrupting traffic. Indian Meterology Department (IMD) officials said that the southwest monsoon will further advance into the three states and become more widespread.
