Newly-elected Congress MLA, K.R.Ramesh Kumar has been elected as the Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly, ahead of the floor test of Chief Minister (CM), Kumaraswamy. His name was proposed by former chief minister, Siddaramaiah and seconded by another MLA. The Speaker will take over from the pro tem Speaker, K.G.Bopaiah. Both Kumaraswamy and Opposition leader, B.S.Yeddyurappa greeted K.R.Ramesh Kumar as soon as he was elected. Kumaraswamy's floor test as the new CM has begun, under the supervision of the new Speaker.
