Kerala State Health Department is on high alert after the death of three persons due to Nipah virus in Kozhikode district. Union minister, J.P. Nadda is in close touch with Kerala Health Department. A Central team has been rushed to help the state department. Two of the three who are affected, are reportedly in a serious condition. The Nipah virus or NiV infection has symptoms like breathing trouble, inflammation of the brain, fever, headache, drowsiness, disorientation and delirium. Eight people, suspected to have contracted the Nipah virus, are being monitored in a special ward in Kozhikode Medical College as well as three other hospitals.
