How Modi govt is trying to measure India's real growth
In about a year's time, the Labour Ministry will start publishing quarterly surveys on jobs covering enterprises with less than 10 people. Informal sector employs comprise of over 90 percent of India’s labour force. Self-employed people will also be included in the survey. Failing to generate employment is denting the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi among youth. The survey will provide reliable data on the employment situation in the country. This will help the government to have a measure of employment in the country's vast informal sector.
