A huge debate is raging over the cash crunch in the states, where 90 per cent ATMs are dry. Even Bankers are blaming the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Centre as well as state governments. While RBI is not prepared with enough notes, there is a general suspicion that Centre is not releasing cash to Southern states due to elections in Karnataka. Another version is that political leaders are hoarding cash to be distributed to voters. That is why Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 500 denomination notes have almost disappeared.
