The Supreme Court said on Wednesday that consent of a bride to marriage is an inherent part of the Hindu marital law. The Apex court has made these comments after hearing a writ petition filed by a woman, who alleged that she was married off against her will. She had fled to Delhi and approached the apex court for justice and protection. The petitioner also highlighted the plight of women who are married forcefully against their wishes. A three-judge Bench led by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra said that forceful marriage without the consent of a bride is invalid and further the case has been postponed to 5th May.
