Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu has described Samakka Saralamma jathara as Khumbha Mela of the South. He visited Medaram in Warangal district, where the jathara is being held. After offering worship to the deities, Venkaiah said that he has come to the jathara only to bring the focus of the country to this festivity. He praised the State Government for organising it very well. It is a symbol of Girijan culture and heritage that has been handed down for ages. Every citizen has the duty to walk in the path shown by elders, to protect culture and traditions, he said.
