Bukkapatnam lake in Ananthapur district is brimming with water after nearly 10 years. The lake that is the main source of irrigation to crops in three mandals, got dried up and the farmers migrated to other places. But this year, the lake is filled from the backwaters of Srisailam Dam. This has made the farmers so happy that they gathered at the lake to celebrate. Chief Whip in Andhra Pradesh (AP) Assembly, Palle Raghunath Reddy got into the waters and had a swim. The 1 tmc capacity lake on Chitravathi river, that was dug in the time of Vijayanagar Empire, dried up due to illegal constructions on the river in Karnataka. Now Srisailam Dam backwaters through Handri Neva canal have filled the lake.
