Nelapattu bird sanctuary, adjoining the wide Pulicat Lake in Nellore, is home to at least 14 kinds of birds, including flamingos and pelicans. They come from all parts of the world, including Siberia that is up north in Russia. They usually arrive during the beginning of the winter months, in October and stay there for about six months. In the meantime, they lay eggs and breed their young ones, before leaving some time in April. Pulicat, which is a sea water lake, is full of life with the noises and flapping of wings of these migratory birds.
