The laying of foundation stone for Nagarjunasagar project has entered the 62nd year on Sunday. The first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone on December 10, 1955. After the construction of the project was completed, it has brought a remarkable change in the lives of lakhs of people in five districts. It is said that over 45 thousand labourers worked daily for almost 12 years to complete the dam with 26 crest gates. In total, over 19 crores labourers worked in the construction process of the prestigious project. Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh, Neelma Sanjeeva Reddy, had laid foundation stone for a bridge downstream Nagarjuasagar reservoir. According to the reports, the multi-purpose project has been providing irrigation water to 22 lakh acres in Nalgonda, Guntur, Prakasam, Khammam and Krishna districts.
