Srisailam dam water level reaches record high; two gates opened

Two gates of Srisailam dam have been opened for the first time this year, letting out 56,000 cusecs of water, in to the river. Irrigation officials said that two gates have been lifted by about 10 ft., letting out the water, at the spillway. It has led to a beautiful sight at the dam site. After a dry spell at the start of the monsoons this year, heavy rains in catchment areas of not only Maharashtra and Karnataka, but also Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, led to the filling up of the dam.
