GST: Health care, education exempted; Higher education costlier - NTv

Fri, Jun 30, 2017, 10:54 AM
Goods and Services Tax (GST) council has exempted health care and education from coming under it's purview. People are somewhat happy about this. However, tax on higher education services have increased from 15 per cent to 18 per cent. Ultimately, coaching centres will collect these extra charges from the students themselves. Hospital fees are about to increase as tax on this has increased, under GST. As it is coaching centres collect fees as they wish. Supreme Court (SC) too has directed that fees collected by coaching centres should be regulated. Additionally, GST on educational services has increased, which will burden the students.
