Interestingly, at Venkatapuram village in Mahbubnagar district, farmers do not have to go far in search of water. They just have a dig a well, say up to some 25 feet and the water comes springing up. The phenomena is surprising even the irrigation officials in the district. Even though they drill borewells, to some 200 ft depth, there is no sign of water. But digging a well yields enough water to grow three crops a year, the farmers said. The happy farmers have urged the government to remove the silt from these wells, as part of Mission Kakatiya, to increase the volume.
