Minister Harish Rao slammed the Centre, over it's late reaction and lack of understanding of farmers' woes. At a press meet in Hyderabad, Harish Rao revealed that Centre has directed Telugu State governments to buy only 33,000 tonnes of best quality Mirchi, at Rs. 5,000 per quintal. This is a clear case of fooling the farmers, he observed. While all market yards are full of lakhs of tonnes of mirchi, best quality mirchi is already selling for at least Rs. 6,000 per quintal. What about the inferior quality mirchi, he asked. Moreover, Centre is not buying the mirchi. It will only make up for the losses, at 25 to 50 per cent, to the State , he clarified.
