Leader of Opposition DMK party, Stalin was detained by police, along with thousands of party activists, who got down to a massive protest at Mahatma Gandhi statue on Marina Beach in Chennai, against Assembly Speaker Dhanpal. Earlier, they had been thrown out of the Assembly, as they stalled the trust vote proceedings of Palaniswamy of AIADMK. Even as Palaniswamy won, Stalin and his group thronged Marina Beach to protest against the 'unfair' voting, without the Opposition. Police had to literally fight off DMK activists, to take Stalin away and put him in a police van. The activists refused to allow the van to move. Thousands of policemen were seen at the beach, driving the crowds away.
