The Centre has reportedly cleared Padma awards for educationist Chukka Ramaiah, former captain of the Indian cricket team Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Olympic Silver medalist and badminton player PV Sindhu and badminton coach Pullela Gopichand among others. Sindhu became the first Indian woman to win a silver medal at Olympics last year. Hyderabadi shuttler became the youngest recipient of India's fourth highest civilian honour, the Padma Shri in March 2015. PV Sindhu's coach P Gopichand has also been selected for the coveted honours. They will be honoured on the eve of the Republic Day this year.
