In a survey conducted in five corporate hospitals in South Mumbai, the sex ratio between male and female ratio is 1000: 860. The sex ratio is much lower than state like Haryana which has less female sex ratio. According to a report, 10 million girls in India have been eliminated due to sex-selective abortions and infanticide in the last 20 years. The United Nations has warned that this gender imbalance may result in increased sexual violence, trafficking and child abuse.
