In Kerala, grandmothers sit for primary exams
The narrow lanes, lined by coconut palms have witnessed a silent revolution in Kerala. Women like Najeeba, in their 50s, who were never allowed to study as young girls, have defied the smirks of their grandchildren to pass their 4th grade equivalency exams. Kerala is the first state in India to accomplish the task of total primary education. Najeeba and other women said that they can read English newspapers.
