Farmers' suicides are on the rise in Vidharba of Maharashtra. It has not rained for the past three years and crops have dried up. Groundwater too has dried up and bores are not functioning. Banks are pestering the farmers to repay the loans, forcing them to commit suicide. The suicide rate among farmers in Vidharba, when compared to last year, is 50 per cent more.
