Sangita Awhale of Saikkhed village of Washim, Maharashtra in an incredibly courageous step, sold her 'mangalsutra' in order to build toilet. For over a decade, Sangita Awhale had to answer nature's calls along a roadside, amidst prying eyes of men. Her husband Narayan and her in-laws didn't think it to be a big deal. "I sold all my gold ornaments to get the work done. None of my family members backed my move, but I preferred a sauchalaya to sona." said Sangita. Rural Development Minister Pankaja Munde reciprocated her gesture by presenting her with a brand new gold mangalsutra!
