The new Road Transport and Safety bill, proposed by the central government, has been criticized by Telangana government as the bill will erode the powers of the state governments. Road Transport minister of Telangana, Mahender Reddy told media persons that Road Transport Corporation, licences, taxes, registrations will be taken over by the Centre and sought necessary modifications in the bill to protect the powers of the states on the issue. As per this bill, traffic offenders jumping signal for the first time will have to pay a penalty of Rs.5000 , Rs. 10000 for the second time and Rs. 15000 penalty and cancellation of licence for the third time.
