4.5 Mn metric tons of gas wasted through cracked Reliance pipelines

Hyderabad: March 5, 2015: 4.5 Million metric tons of natural gas have gone waste when the Reliance company's cracked pipelines leaked gas resulting in huge fire at Maddigunta village in Medak district on Monday. No one was injured in the incident and the Reliance technical experts along with local police officials and a team of fire fighters took nearly six hours to douse the biggest fire. The pipelines, carrying natural gas from the Reliance offshore drilling platforms at Kakinada to Bharuch in Gujarat through Medak district, are maintained by Reliance Gas Transportation Infrastructure Ltd (RGTIL). Reliance officials later told reporters that the gas had leaked through a cracked part of the pipelines. Reliance has launched an investigation to ascertain the reasons for the cracks that have developed.
