57 killed in Pakistan road accident

Islamabad, Jan 11, 2015: 57 persons were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and an oil tanker in Pakistan, media reported. The bus caught fire after it collided with the tanker in Karachi, Geo News reported. Four people, travelling on the roof of the bus, remained safe after they jumped from the vehicle when it hit the tanker. The accident took place on the Link road, a few kms from Gulshan-e-Hadeed in Karachi. Sources said the bus, carrying 60 to 70 passengers was en route to Shikarpur from Karachi. According to the initial report, the accident occurred due to the negligence of oil tanker driver, who escaped from the site after the accident. At least 57 bodies, including women and four injured have been shifted to Jinnah Hospital, according to Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre emergency department in-charge Seemi Jamali. Sources said six injured passengers have also been shifted to 100-bed hospital of Pakistan Steel Mills. Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has taken notice of the accident and directed for relief work.
