SC to deliver orders on Monday on cockfights

New Delhi,Jan 9, 2015: The Supreme Court on Friday deferred for Monday hearing on petitions filed by several persons from East and West Godavari districts challenging the AP High Court orders banning cockfights in Andhra Pradesh. The court has permitted Society for Animals to join the case as interlocutor. Meanwhile, counsel for the petitioners told the court that cockfights should not be seen as violence towards animals. " Organizing cockfights is part of the tradition and culture in the coastal regions of AP. It is also the responsibility of courts to preserve the culture," counsel told the apex court. When the youth is leaning towards western culture, how can one find fault with preserving the culture and tradition and involving the youth in it, asked the counsel for petitioners.
