SC admits petition opposing ban on cockfights

New Delhi, Jan 8, 2015: The Supreme Court has on Thursday deferred for tomorrow hearing on a petition filed by a Bhimavaram business man challenging the High court orders banning cockfights in Andhra Pradesh. The petitioner, Raghuramachandra Raju, has argued that Government has never banned cockfights in the state. The High court's orders were based on a petition that said the state government has failed to implement its ban on cockfights. Admitting the petition for hearing, the court directed the Government to show a copy of orders issued banning cockfights in the state. "We will hear the petition tomorrow," the court said.
